September 2014

We're back! I know I am already way behind on this blog. But here we go.

We got back to the states in July and spent time with family in Utah and Kentucky before heading to Maine. We had a great time with family and friends. We drove to Maine from Kentucky. It took us about 3 days with the girls.

As we were driving, we past the last "big" city in Maine and drove for an hour and a half. We had to get off the interstate at that point and drive ONE MORE HOUR on a two lane highway to get to our new town. The last hour was when I realized how far out we actually were. I mean, I had seen it one the map, but seeing it in person was a different reality.

We finally got to our new home to take a look around. It's a pretty cute little house and the property is awesome! We have 11 acres of mostly wooded area and there's even a creek that runs through our property... not to mention all the wildlife that likes to roam through the yard.

Here are some pictures of the house.

The house was built back in the 1930, however, the previous owner renovated the entire house in 2007. Prior to the renovation there had been no plumbing and very little heating. It has been used for hired help for potato farming during the warmer months.

That is an apartment above the garage so if you're interested in a visit, you have a place to stay. Plus, there's a cabin out in the woods if you're here in the warmer months. =)

Mike always likes to grow the facial hair out when he's on a long break from work. I like the beard, but the mustache is just so creepy.

Some random pictures:

A regular scene during the fall.

The realtor and the previous owner gave us some real Maine maple syrup for a housewarming gift. The smaller bottle was from the trees on our property.

Our first trip to Canada! New Brunswick is the closest province to us.

Oh you Canadians!
We didn't take a ton of pictures that day because it was Sunday and we were just driving around. And really most of Canada right around us, looks very similar to where we are... very rural.

One of my favorite things about living in this area - the Amish! I am so intrigued by these people. I've been telling Mike I want to see if they'll let me come over and just basically live like an Amish women for a day. A day is probably all I could handle, but really, it seems like it would be so interesting! All the ones I have met have been super friendly. They don't like pictures to be taken of themselves for religious reasons.

I can't tell if it even says on the picture, but this is the sign for Holton Dairy Farms. It's our favorite place to get ice cream. And it's some of the best ice cream ever!

Just a few random pictures...
Our little farmers picking apples.

Dressing up like Dad.

One of the fun things we see around town.

We were without our household goods for about a month. They had a hard time finding a company that would drive our stuff ALL the way up here... at least that's what we were told. HA! Too far even for the MOVING CO! Anyway... it was nice to have our stuff again.

And after the girls found their craft stuff.

When the leaves start to change color, this place is beautiful. Unfortunately it started in September.

Yes, that's an outhouse and yes it is usable.

I got these really cute pictures of a ginger eating Ginger Snaps. Doing this post reminded me I should still send these in to Stauffers!

And that's it for the first month!
